Musical Director Goodbye and Welcome

It is with great sadness that we are saying goodbye to our current Musical Director Janet Townsend MBE.
After much success with previous choirs, including the Port Isaac Singers, Janet founded this choir in 1993 and has led it with her unique style ever since. We will not forget her sayings such as "lift your eyebrows ladies" to hit the top notes, or "you are enjoying yourself to much tenors" when they are a little too loud!
Membership has grown to almost 60 and we have regularly won many competitions including the last 4 years at the Wadebridge Festival. It was felt by all members to be an absolute must that we won it again in this her final year.
There would be no Chorale without Janet's inspiration and dedication and we all owe her a huge thank you.
We are very pleased to have appointed Gareth Stubberfield as our new Musical Director from 1st September 2026. He has an abundance of experience in leading choirs and brings a host of musical talent to the position.
Gareth is very respectful of the Chorale's heritage and Janet's influence in it and will support us all in endeavouring to preserve and enhance her legacy.
We are fortunate that he has directed some of our rehearsals when Janet has been absent, so he is aware of what he is letting himself in for!
We are also pleased that our existing accompanist Jo Norton will continue after the transition.
