Two Bays Trust Big Blue Day Concert - 16th May 2026
We were delighted to be asked to contribute to the first Big Blue Day of the Two Bays Trust by providing a small concert. We persevered in delivering a few well know songs from recent musicals, despite the strong wind, as can be seen from the image above, blowing scores and pages around.
Performing outside is always a challenge resulting in the sound being not up to our normal standard due to the wind, the limited microphones and space under cover, but the audience seemed to have enjoyed listening. Sometimes taking part is what is important.
Wadebridge’s 2026 Festival of Music & Speech - 5th March 2026
Port Isaac Chorale was pleased to join in Wadebridge’s 2026 Festival of Music & Speech and delighted to come out as winners of its Mixed Large Choir Open. Led by Musical Director Janet Townsend MBE and accompanied by pianist Jo Norton, our 40-strong choir on the night gave voice to two quite different pieces.
The first was “The Snow”, with music composed by Edward Elgar in 1894 to lyrics written a few years earlier as a poem by his wife Carole Alice. Essentially it’s a passionate portrayal of snow’s qualities as a measure of true love. Sadly but inevitably the snow quickly loses its sparkle and “must melt, must go”. The song’s closing Cri de Coeur is that human love should not fade in the same way!
Second was “You are the New Day”, written and composed by John David in 1978. In the face of both dark personal and global times he looked for strength to the thought of the next day’s coming regardless of events complete with sunrise, dawn chorus and the new hope it would bring. It is a powerful song to the New Day itself.
Certainly it was great fun, a lot of rehearsing to remember the words and huge relief in getting through not noticeably scathed. This is the 4th successive year in which the Chorale has won The Nancy Waters Cup which marks this contest – and the final time for Janet who is retiring this summer.
